Mr. Quitt brings to the NJ State Opera three decades of experience in theatre and music production.
Mr. Quitt will be working with Jason Tramm, NJ State Opera Artistic Director and principal conductor- and long time collaborator on numerous performances throughout their careers. “Jonathan’s strength in producing live musical entertainment allows the company the freedom to choose large scale operas such as our upcoming May 21 and 23 performances of Porgy and Bess with complete confidence, knowing all aspects of negotiations, logistics and stage management will be well in hand”, said Tramm.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Quitt served as Production Manager for Destination: Opera!, the NJ State Opera’s summer residence and Opera Festival in Ocean Grove at the Jersey Shore. Mr. Tramm and Mr. Quitt’s successful production of Destination: Opera! 2009 received regional praise by David Patrick Stearns, Classical Music Critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer and resulted in Mr. Quitt’s production of a feature length HDTV program with All Mobile Video, Verdi Requiem: Live From Ocean Grove which aired this past November on PBS affiliate NJN.
Mr. Quitt is a graduate of Colgate University in English and Fine Arts. Mr. Quitt’s production credits include countless Broadway shows, concerts and broadcast events at Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music hall, as well as large-scale special events, political conventions and corporate events.
Mr. Quitt learned the high art of staging Grand Opera as a stage carpenter at the Metropolitan Opera House, under the watch of Mr. Quitt’s inspiration, Joseph Volpe.
Jonathan resides in Fair Haven, New Jersey with his wife Cindy, and bearnese mountain dog, Bailey.
Jonathan has two sons, Alexander and Daniel. Alexander is a 1st lieutenant in the US Army, currently stationed in Iraq. Daniel is a recent graduate of St. Lawrence University with a degree in economics and mathematics.
